It feels a little late to be putting sentiments like “Hello, 2019” out into the world. As a writer, I feel like everything I create needs a beginning, a middle and an end. But when I post so sporadically and take an accidental two-month break in between, that beginning is a little tougher to write. Despite that, I’m here now. Despite creating online content in my day-to-day, I can’t help but feel a little rusty on the blogging front. With that in mind, I’m going to use today’s post to play catch-up with 2019 so far.

I Became Vegetarian
That’s right – I finally took the plunge and ditched meat for good. I’ve been cruelty-free for a few years now, but could never shake the feeling of guilt when it came to eating meat. I tried to justify the need for it for a while due to my naturally low iron levels, but I’d just had enough. And y’know what? I’ve never felt better for it. Sure, I feel tired a lot more often now, but I’m eating better than ever. I actively try to cram more vegetables into my diet, which is strange for a serial veggie dodger like myself. I’ve also become more creative with meals – I’ve mastered Chinese-style veggie fried rice, veggie paella and more. Not only that, but I’ve been pushed from my comfort zone to the point that trying new foods/meals isn’t scary. That’s a win in my (cook)book!
I Turned 26
I won’t lie – when I turned 25, I freaked. It was the first real age where I felt like I hadn’t achieved what I’d expected/hoped I would have by that point in my life. Over the last year, I’ve learned to see beyond that. We all achieve things at our own pace, nothing’s too early and nothing’s too late. As long as we’re growing and progressing, that’s what counts. So, 26 didn’t phase me. In fact, I actually kind of liked it. It’s a well-rounded number. I like what I’ve been able to turn around in the last year. Scored the dream job, moved to a new city, embraced change and took life by the horns. With that mentality in mind, I can’t wait to see what point I’m at by the time I reach 27.
I Went to Kraków
I took my first trip of 2019 to Kraków in Poland! What a gorgeous city. Despite the seriously low temperatures we experienced in our time there (-5 degrees Celsius during one of the days), I appreciated it all nonetheless. Auschwitz was chilling but incredibly insightful. The city’s structure and buildings were impeccable and so different compared to home. You can’t help but have your eye drawn to every little detail – that’s how you know there’s a little bit of magic when it comes to travel. And I got to visit Kraków’s cat cafe too – very on-brand for me, if I do say so myself.
2019, overall I think you’re going to be a beauty of a year. And if not, it’s my motto/belief to make it happen.
