Today’s topic of discussion: eyelashes. For those of us who don’t get eyelash extensions or apply falsies regularly, it can be hard not to feel like a naked mole rat at times. If you’ve ever been jealous of a boy and their endlessly long, curly lashes (WHY do they have them? Kind of unfair, y’know?) then today’s post is for you. I’m chatting through 3 miracle must-haves for lacklustre lashes, all cruelty-free and under £10 each price-wise.
Fun fact: I learned all there is to know about eyelashes from Madelaine Petsch. Renowned for playing the feisty Cheryl Blossom on Riverdale, she has the most incredible eyelashes known to humankind. With partial thanks to using eyelash primer, as it goes! She does lots of skincare and make-up videos over on her YouTube channel if you’re curious and in need of some beauty/shopping inspiration. Anyway, back on topic!
The Essence Volume Booster Lash Primer is a make-up bag essential if I’ve ever known one. If you’re anything like me, your eyelashes just aren’t ideal. My lashes are very long, but because they’re straight/blonde they’re pretty much invisible. I’ve tried eyelash curlers and waterproof mascaras (apparently better for holding a curl long-term – who knew?) sadly to no avail. I was so surprised when this budget option changed it all! This spreads out the eyelashes while adding volume and length, and gives a kick flare effect once mascara is applied. Fortified with acai oil, mango butter and vitamin E, it’s doing all the good in the world while your eyelashes be their best selves. Result!
I’ve heard great things about NYX mascaras over the years, so this is my first to be put to the test. Worth The Hype is a great option for an everyday mascara: it fans out the eyelashes beautifully without being too OTT. If a dramatic lash is more up your street, then this isn’t the mascara for you. I’ve loved wearing this on minimal make-up days or as part of my work make-up routine. Simple and natural, it’s one of the rare few that doesn’t print below my eyes after a few hours of wear. Always a plus! Will I re-purchase? Time will tell. There are lots of budget-friendly options out there, some likely to give more bang for your buck than this one, which retails for £9. That said, I do really like it paired with natural looks and will use up the remainder.
Drama on a budget? Essence have your back with their Lash Princess mascara range. There’s a few different versions of this mascara that cater different wants and needs: volume, false lash effect, sculpted volume and waterproof. I always wear waterproof mascaras as they last longer, are usually transfer-proof and hold a curl better, as I mentioned earlier. I’ve been wearing make-up for the last 15 years, and this is the closest I’ve come to finding a mascara that mimics the effect of false lashes. Perfect with dark n’ smokey make-up or just to add a touch of pizzazz, this is my go-to for elaborate and extensive looks. I would say it’s great for nights out, if I ever went on any… But you get my point! This mascara gives big, bold lashes that aren’t spider-y, which is a win in my book for sure!
