Kat Von D Beauty Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette Review
Happy hump day, gang! I’m comin’ atcha today with another beauty post, chatting about the Kat Von D Beauty Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette. Y’all know by now that I’m a Kat Von D Beauty fan through and through, and this palette is no exception to the rule. It’s versatile, pigmented and easily conquers any look you can envision in your head. Not convinced? Well there’s a whole post to back up my claims, so stay tuned!
About the palette
The Kat Von D Beauty Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette contains twelve shades, all matte and extremely high in pigment. Kat Von D Beauty have created a series of eyeshadow quad palettes, and has divided this palette the same way. Twelve shades are divided into three quads, which I’ll go into more detail on later.
This palette is designed to create the perfect eye shape, with definition, lift or balance in mind depending on what look you’re going for. Each quad obviously has four shadows, which serve four functions: base, contour, define and highlight. The palette also contains a handy guide with six potential looks that work with the eye and its shape; two to define, two to lift, and two to balance. Of each of the two looks, one is natural while the other is smokey, giving you endless options for how to do your look on the daily.
Quad One – Neutral
The first quad speaks for itself, ‘Neutral’. It contains neutral shades that are ideal for use during any time of the day, and serve many different purposes. ‘Laetus’ is the base shade, and is a warm cream hue. ‘Samael’ is the contour shade, and is a neutral medium brown hue. It will prove versatile for multiple different things: filling in eyebrows, etc. ‘Salas’ is the definer shade, which is a neutral dark brown. It’s perfect for running through the crease or along the lash line. ‘Lucius’ is the highlight shade, and is a cool ivory. Ideal for the inner corner and on the brow bone, etc.
Quad Two – Cool
Quad number two is ‘Cool’. ‘Lazarus’ is an absolutely stunning shade. It’s the base of this quad, a cool taupe grey. Another versatile shade, it’s the perfect face contour shade for pale gals like myself, as well as an eyeshadow. ‘Saleos’ is the contour shade, a cool dark brown. ‘Shax’ is the definer shade, a cool black hue. And the highlight is ‘Liberatus’, a cool matte white. I tend to steer away from cool-toned looks, as my pale skin and red hair look seem to look better with warm tones. But this palette pushes my comfort zone to do looks that are different and beyond what I’ve done before, which I love!
Quad Three – Warm
The third quad is my favourite, and is called ‘Warm’. Can you imagine why? Grunge-y red ’90s looks have been my absolute favourite for the last two years at least. Everyone isn’t a fan of a red eye look, but this palette makes them a lot more approachable. ‘Ludwin’ is the base shade, which is a warm peach hue. I love using this all over the eye and through my lash line, it makes for such a unique look and works so well with my hair! ‘Succubus’ is the contour shade, a warm red hue. By far my favourite shade in this palette, I can’t get enough of it! ‘Sytry’ is the definer shade, which is a warm deep brown. And ‘Latinus’ is the highlight, which is a warm beige tone.
Conclusion
All in all, it’s the palette of the year for me. It’s always my favourite companion when I travel, as I can do so much with it, a lot more than your usual eyeshadow palette. I find all of the shades ultimately versatile, and perfect for any occasion, which is exactly what I want from a palette. I can see myself using it for years to come, as I don’t see neutral shades or grunge-y eyes ever going out of style. So excited for what’s to come from Kat Von D Beauty!
